H Μύκονος στην Travel Hot List, της Thomson για το 2015

The January blues are well and truly kicking in at Thomson Towers, and there’s only one thing for it – start planning our 2015 adventures.......
But where to this year? Here’s a round-up of the destinations we’ve got our eye on…

Iceland
Live volcanoes, natural hot tubs, and towns so pretty they don’t need a filter – yep, it could only be Iceland. This place is so good-looking it’s set the showbiz world on fire. Location scouts have flocked here to film the likes of Game of Thrones and Prometheus. Whatever you do, don’t miss the Blue Lagoon, a natural body of water that averages a toasty 37 degrees.

Costa Rica
Few places pack in as many tropical stereotypes as Costa Rica. This slice of Central America lines up thick jungles and wildlife straight out of a David Attenborough documentary. It’s perfect for adrenaline junkies, thanks to a big helping of bucket list-friendly activities. We’re talking about zip-lining over treetops, white water rafting, river tubing, and sunrise volcano treks.

Mauritius
Mauritius, a freckle of an island in the Indian Ocean, majors in R&R. Days here are spent lounging in hammocks sandwiched by coconut palms, and paddling in lagoons that wash over impossibly white beaches. For empty, sheltered inlets, look at the west coast, around the Flic en Flac region. Eastern Belle Mare, meanwhile, has wavier bays that’ll let you channel your inner surfer.

Dalmatian Coast & Islands
Tourism in Croatian has quadrupled in recent years. Holidaymakers have woken up to the country’s lush pine forests, pebbly beaches and see-and-be-seen marinas. This stretch of Croatia’s west coast teams all that with islands made for playing castaway on, like Hvar (pictured) and Brac. We’re in love.

Djerba
Chances are you’ve heard of Tunisia, but what about Djerba? This dinky island floating off the mainland’s south coast is like a miniature version of its neighbour, except over here it’s much calmer and quieter. Small but perfectly formed beaches line up next to villages that look just like they did centuries ago.

Mykonos

We’re not the only ones who’ve noticed this sophisticated Greek island. Just ask the Kardashians, who couldn’t stop gushing over the place last summer. Or Dolce and Gabbana, who moor their yacht in Mykonos Town. So, why the A-list following? Well, the island was made for after-dark playtime. Cue cocktails on clifftop terraces and ouzo-fuelled dancing until dawn.

Chengdu

Two words – giant pandas. This city in China’s south-west is one of the few places you can come face-to-face with the endangered animals, and the area’s surrounding breeding grounds are Chengdu’s star attraction. It’s thought that only around 1,000 are now living in their natural habitat. Furry creatures aside, the restaurants here are top-notch, and the teahouses charming.

Norway
Web searches for ‘holidays to Norway’ have hit record levels in the past year or so, and travel experts have called it ‘the Frozen effect’. The hit Disney movie is now a household name, and the frosty landscape that dominates the film was inspired by this especially beautiful part of Scandinavia. In place of Anna and Elsa, you’ll find fairytale churches and vast fjords.
